Rep. Stephens to host Internet Safety Seminar

O’Fallon IL….
Representative Ron Stephens (R-Highland), in a cooperative effort with the Attorney General’s office, will host an Internet Safety Seminar at Fulton Junior High School in O’Fallon on Monday, April 14. The seminar is designed to teach the students about how to stay safe on the Internet, specifically social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

“The Internet is a wonderful tool which can prove useful for everything from education to communication,” Rep. Stephens said. “However, we have to make sure our children are careful while online and not giving out private information to people with ulterior motives.”

Stephens recently sponsored a package of bills designed to make social networking sites safer for children, as well as increase mandatory punishments for child predators.

The students of Fulton Junior High School will take part in the hour long seminar beginning at 9:15 a.m.
