Bill Regarding Mascoutah School District Signed Into Law

Springfield….
Legislation allowing the Mascoutah School District to issue bonds to be used to construct a new high school was signed by the governor today, according to Representative Ron Stephens (R-Highland).

“This is not a glamorous bill, but it is a necessary bill,” Stephens said. “This bill will allow the school to get access to the money they will need to construct a new high school, if the voters approve the idea in the November election.”

Senate Bill 848, which Stephens sponsored, allows Mascoutah Community Unit District 19 to issue bonds with an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $55 million if various conditions are met. Mascoutah voters have to approve a proposition for the bond issuance during the elections, held on November 4. Also, the school board has to determine that the building and equipping of a new high school building is required as a result of a projected increase in the enrollment of students in the district and the age and condition of the existing high school building.

“New schools are always a good idea, and this legislation will allow Mascoutah to construct a new high school designed to house the ever growing student population,” Stephens said.
